Marine Police launch search after kite-skier hits reef line
A kite-skier who ditched his equipment after hitting the reef line near Grape Bay, east of Elbow Beach in Paget, sparked a Marine Police search on the weekend.
A shoreline onlooker raised the alarm after seeing the kite waterskier jump from his board as he hit the reefs, abandoning his kite and board in the process.
When there was no sight of the man coming back to shore, Police and Bermuda Maritime Operations were alerted and a search of the coastline and the water was carried out shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Despite the search, there was no sign of the skier, however, his kite sailing equipment was located by the Marine Police launch Rescue 2 and brought to shore. As darkness fell Police managed to contact another kite waterskier who was subsequently able to confirm the missing man had managed to swim ashore to safety.
The man later retrieved his recovered kite sailing equipment from the Police.
