MPs voice sadness at death of Reagan

Members of the House of Assembly expressed sadness over the death of former US President Ronald Reagan, who died last weekend at the age of 93.

Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons said Mr. Reagan will be remembered for policies which led to the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Europe.

Dr. Gibbons added that Mr. Reagan was ?certainly a friend to Bermuda,? citing the tax treaty signed in 1998 which led to the stimulation of the local economy via the reinsurance industry.

?It put us in good standing, and led to the economic situation we?re in today,? said Dr. Gibbons. He noted that it served as an example of the benefits of maintaining a good relationship with the United States.
