Attorney General Larry Mussenden this week dismissed a call by the Opposition United Bermuda Party to resign.

Following Sunday's violence at Wellington Oval, UBP MP Maxwell Burgess called on Mr. Mussenden to resign as Attorney General or as president of the Bermuda Football Association.

"The Premier had asked me to serve as the Attorney General and I am determined to do that and the affiliates of the BFA have elected me to be the president of the Association and it's an Association to which I volunteer my time. I don't see a conflict of interest there at all."

He pointed out that many people in Bermuda wear several hats because of the size of the country, and volunteerism should be encouraged.

"I had rejected Max Burgess' call for me to resign but also extended an invitation to him to volunteer in some capacity. Perhaps he already volunteers, I don't know ? if he does we would be interested in knowing what he volunteers for today, and because you serve in various capacities doesn't mean you are in conflict."

Mr. Burgess, the Shadow Home Affairs Minister had made the resignation call when it emerged that Mr. Mussenden had not felt that a Police presence was necessary at the field for Sunday's match, and argued there was potential for a conflict of interest in Mr. Mussenden holding both roles.

Mr. Burgess said there was a danger Mr. Mussenden's judgement as BFA president could conflict with Government policy on policing.
