Commuters in St. David's will have the opportunity to use a new pilot bus service starting today.

The Ministry of Transport and the Bermuda Land Development Corporation will run the service in the Southside area similar to the service which was conducted in Warwick this past February, March, and April.

Transport Minister Ewart Brown said the service will assist with with providing efficient public transportation throughout the island.

"Our decision to test this new service at Southside stems from the fact that this is a fast developing community, complete with commerce, beaches, a school, and a grocery store. It is our hope to provide the residents with a service that will cater to their day to day activities," he said.

Dr. Brown said that Route 6, St. George's to St. David's service will be extended through to 9.40 p.m. Monday to Friday on an experimental basis to determine the permanency of the service.

Traditional pink and blue bus poles have been placed throughout the internal Southside Connector Service' route for easy identification.

Dr. Brown said that upon completion of the project, as with the Warwick service, the PTB along with the BLDC will run a data exercise to determine the need for future service.
