New hair salon planned for Hamilton
A new hair salon may be coming to the City of Hamilton.
An application has been filed for Planning approval to change the former Meyer Travel offices at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 16 Washington Lane into a beauty parlour.
In order to convert the offices, the salon is asking for permission to add sinks and plumbing as well as additional electrical outlets.
Yesterday, the owner of the proposed salon told The Royal Gazette it will offer hairdressing, beauty and nails but is still in the very early stages.
The salon will be called ‘Soave', if it is approved.
The application for final planning approval was submitted February 8.
Meyer Travel closed its Washington Lane branch in December in order to make its operations more efficient, The Royal Gazette was told.
“The trends in the industry and September 11 were the catalyst but not the reason,” said Cheryl Ann Hayward-Chew, general manager of Meyer Industries.
Ms Hayward-Chew added the business no longer found it feasible to carry the additional overhead of the extra office and relocated its staff to Meyer's offices at 35 Church Street.
