Bermuda workers now have new and improved health and safety laws after the Senate unanimously approved legislative changes spearheaded by the Health Ministry.

There was little debate of the Health and Safety Amendment Act 2004 in the Upper Chamber.

The bill, which now has to be signed by the Governor before it can become law, brings the Island in line with technological developments and international standards on workplace safety.

The changes make it mandatory to investigate work accidents and improves the reporting regime and boosts the rights of employees to refuse to work if they are in imminent danger, protecting them from unjust disciplinary action.
