Bermudians looking to make a fast buck can take part in a new lottery, its operators claim.

And the new gaming system that has reached Bermuda's shores, has been deemed a success in several Caribbean Islands, including Antigua and the Leeward Islands.

In recent weeks, locals have been bombarded with flyers and notices distributed around the Island promoting the Caribbean Lottery. The lottery is similar to the US style lotto system which has players picking several numbers out of 20 in one game. Local agents Triple Crown Racing say they have been getting positive feedback from the community.

Manager Andrea Joseph said the new gaming system has been trial operating since May, this year.

"We are just starting out," she said. "A lot of people are showing some type of interest. The most we have paid out so far is $550. You basically have to buy a ticket from the cashier and fill out the ticket and we make daily draws. What's in the machine goes out for the winnings."

Asked about the concerns of scams and schemes that Bermuda has seen in recent years, about locals having been conned out of money in the past, she assured the programme is on the level.

Ms Joseph said her company has gone through all the proper Government channels for approval, adding they pay a tax to Government to operate the system in Bermuda.

When The Royal Gazette tried to contact the Finance Ministry concerning the legality of the system, no one from the department was available for comment.

"They've been talking," Ms Joseph said. "We charge 15 percent and we give Government 20 percent tax."

The Caribbean Lottery offers up to five games at $1.15 a ticket and pays out its winnings in US currency, meaning that players in Bermuda are competing with players in the Caribbean and possibly in the US.

One of the games offers players the opportunity to win up to $100,000 while another offers a daily jackpot of $25,000.
