Odette to lash Island Saturday

Thunderstorms and heavy rain are set to strike Bermuda tomorrow as Tropical Storm Odette hits the Island.

Much of the storm?s power will have dissipated by the time it reaches the Island, but by combining with a low coming in from the north-west, Odette will still bring with her some pretty unpleasant weather, said the Bermuda Weather Service last night.

The heaviest rain is likely to come on Saturday evening, along with winds of up to 30 knots, but the tropical low could bring gale force winds by Monday.

Odette, formerly Tropical Depression 20, is approaching Bermuda from the south, south-west but its 40 knot winds will have slowed significantly by the time it reaches the Island.
