St. George?s Mayor E. Michael Jones is calling for Police reinforcements after growing incidents of violence and long waits to get help.

He said four officers were installed in the Old Town some months ago, but they have rarely been seen since.

On Wednesday last week thugs battered down the White Horse door and threw concrete blocks after being denied entry by bouncers.

Dozens of horrified customers looked on.

One eyewitness said: ?They literally got a barrier and rammed it through the front door while bouncers tried to prevent them.?

He said the group were notorious for spitting at bouncers, picking fights and harassing women and were continually trying to get access despite flouting the dress code.

The eyewitness said: ?Police need to deal with it. These guys should be arrested.

?St. George?s is getting out of hand during night times.?

Recently Mr. Jones waited up to 20 minutes for help when a couple had a noisy and abusive domestic row outside the Carriage House Restaurant.

By the time Police arrived, the troublemakers had ambled off said Mr. Jones. The problem was with one officer to man the substation, once the others were called out there was no cover.

?We were really excited we were getting community police but we haven?t seen them.?

He said busy market nights, which saw thousands of cruise visitors, were being Policed by reserves. There had already been complaints from visitors about rowdy town square locals said Mr. Jones.

?It will get worse as summer comes and the heat gets worse.?
