Performers admit marijuana charge

Two performers in the entourage of Caribbean entertainer Elephant Man appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday for importing marijuana over the weekend.

DJ Travis Cummings, 21, and rap performer Leron Louis James, 21, both of New York, pleaded guilty to importing the controlled drug cannabis.

Crown counsel Shade Subair told the court that when Cummings arrived at the Bermuda International Airport on November 8, he was singled out by drug-sniffing dogs.

He was subjected to a secondary search and as he was removing his trousers, a small bag containing 1.87 grams of marijuana fell out. Ms Subair said James arrived on November 9 and was also searched. He was found to be carrying 2.37 grams of the drug.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves fined the pair $1,000 to be paid immediately.
