Lawyer Mark Pettingill accused Director of Public Prosecutions Khamisi Tokunbo, yesterday of holding up the wheels of justice in a 16-year-old murder case.

Stanford Glenfield Archibald, 38, appeared in Magistrates' Court for mention for the 1985 murder of 19-year-old Aaron Glen Easton.

Archibald, of Rockywold Drive, Sandys Parish, has been living in Scotland with his wife and two children for several years and was arrested when he returned home for a vacation earlier this month.

Crown counsel Shade Subair requested a two week adjournment in order for papers to be served, but Sen. Pettingill reiterated his stance from Archibald's initial appearance on October 16, that his client was entitled to have the matter dealt with quickly.

And he said he believed that Mr. Tokunbo was playing games.

"I have to object," Sen. Pettingill said. "This is a very old case - 16 years old - it's of some vintage. The last time I was here, I requested the papers to be due in a week. I have experts in line to get on with this matter and I am someone who doesn't like their chain pulled.

"It's not Ms Subair's problem, because you don't shout at the messenger. I'd invite the Director, if he wants to come down and pull my chain, he should come down and do it himself and not send other counsel."

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves granted the prosecution one week to serve papers and said: "It's a murder case, there are particular circumstances and I was left with the impression that some papers would be served."

He adjourned the matter until November 5, remanding Archibald in custody.

Mr. Easton was found lying in a pool of blood on Laffan Street on May 4, 1985.
