PLP backs offshore wind energy
The Progressive Labour Party yesterday said it would construct meaningful and realistic solutions for the problem of global warming.
In partnership with the private sector, the PLP manifesto said it would consider ways to assess the energy efficiency of buildings in both the residential and commercial sectors and provide a means for certification.
It also plans to encourage the use of alternative energy sources in buildings and homes and the promotion of "green" technologies.
It also said it would promote sustainable alternative energy sources through "flexible and fair" tax policies, including offshore wind generated energy.
However, Belco chief executive officer Vince Ingham said last month that Belco had invesigated wind-generated energy and rejected it: "Belco has studied wind and has concluded that there is indeed a wind resource, but our main issue with wind is that it is an intermittent power supply."
