Another six ruling party candidates were rolled out to the public today.

Again the announcement caused no surprises, confirming speculation that Rev Wilbur Lowe will be running in Hamilton West, or District 6 and that Randolph Horton will be moving to Southampton.

Rev Lowe, who has strong roots in St. George's and represented the old St. George's South for the last five years, had planned on retiring.

This week he told The Bermuda Sun that the party was desperate for a candidate and he had agreed to stay on.

Rev. Lowe spent parts of his childhood in the area and said he had been "moving around" the community and visiting places he had not been to since he was a boy.

He said he would be working with Derrick Burgess, who will be running in the neighbouring District 5, to address youth issues in the area.

"We have already established a couple of meetings with these young men and we look forward to making some inroads - listening to their stories and finding out what they have to say and how we can meet their needs... and also we will be concentrating on the elderly as well. It grieves me when I hear that the (cost of ) care for elderly is going up more and more."

The announcement also confirmed that Community Affairs Minister Randolph Horton will be running in the West End District 32 or Southampton West.

Mr. Horton said the move from his old district, Hamilton West, which he has represented for the past five years was like "going back home".

"Many of you may not know but I was very much instrumental in working to ensuring that Sandys parish become the first parish to have four Progressive Labour Party MPs," he said.

"So I'm really, really pleased to be back. I know the constituents very well, particularly on the south side."

Michael Scott, who has served as a ruling party Senator since the party's 1998 victory at the polls, was announced the candidate for the neighbouring district, Southampton West Central.

Mr. Scott who has contested the old Southampton West seat since 1989 said that he was now offering valuable experience as a Government Senator.

Party Leader Jennifer Smith was flanked by labour leader Derrick Burgess and backbencher Dale Butler.

Mr. Butler who, with Works Minister Alex Scott, has represented the old Warwick East and had originally wanted to run in Warwick South Central, or District 26. But the party felt differently and he has settled for District 25, or Warwick North East.

The popular and fiercely independent MP said that he was looking forward to being sent back to the House of Assembly by the new district.

Deputy Speaker Walter Lister is hoping to extend a 27 year career in politics by running in Sandys South Central, or District 34.

He has been representing the old Sandys South since 1976.

Mr. Lister said he was proud of the party's record in Government.

"The gloom and doom spoken prior to the last election was just a figment of some people's imagination," he said.
