The Progressive Labour Party will hold its second "Affirmation Rally" on Thursday.

East End candidates will gather at Warrior's Field, Harrington Sound, for the start of the rally at 7.30 p.m.

As part of its campaign strategy the PLP is calling election day "affirmation day". The party says that an objective appraisal of its record during the first term in office will lead many voters to endorse them for a second term.

Last week's rally at Spice Valley Middle School drew a relatively sparse crowd compared with the party's 1998 election campaigning.

Ottiwell Simmons said that "maybe" 200 people showed up at Spice Valley, but he was not disappointed at the level of turnout.

"I believe we are gaining momentum and the next one will be a larger crowd and the third one will be larger still," Mr. Simmons said.

"As we get close to the polling date the crowds will gain momentum. People will be more conscious of their obligation to cast a ballot for the party and the government they are seeking."

The party is also holding a public meeting for candidates for the districts 32 to 36 at Sandys Secondary Middle School today starting at 8 p.m.
