Police appeal for witnesses as man arrested
An Island-wide manhunt yesterday resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old man suspected of entering Hamilton MarketPlace with a hatchet on Saturday.
However, Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident that took place at around 4.55 p.m. when the shop was still crowded with customers.
Police said the man allegedly entered the store brandishing a hatchet and threatened staff in front of customers, before escaping in a white Suzuki jeep.
?Any witnesses to this incident are asked to contact Sgt. Robert Cardwell at the Serious Crime Unit on 299-4239 and/or P.c. Terry Trott on 299-4490,? Police said yesterday.
MarketPlace refused to comment on the incident. ?As the matter is under Police investigation we do not feel that it is appropriate to comment further,? MarketPlace vice president Scott Carswell said yesterday.
