Police come under fire
Around 50 youths fought each other and then turned on the Police outside Southampton Rangers club in the early hours of Saturday morning after a birthday party got out of hand.
Police Support Units and other units were rushed to the scene at about 4.30 a.m. but were hit by a hail of missiles.
Police spokesman Inspector John Dale said: “These officers performed tremendously well with courage and great restraint as bottles and other objects were thrown at them. The officers stood their ground and the crowd eventually dispersed.
“Fortunately there are no reported injuries or damage.”
Two men have been arrested in connection with the fight and a court appearance is expected.
Asked about the fight a barman told The Royal Gazette: “We don't know nothing about that.
“It was outside the gates, the club was already closed. We closed about 3.30 a.m.”
