Police yesterday thanked the public for being on their best behaviour after the Cup Match holiday passed off without any major incidents.

Police drafted in extra officers, including reservists, and metal detectors were employed at Somerset Cricket Club to ensure potential trouble-makers didn?t smuggle in weapons.

And there was a large Police presence at the Bounty Killer concert at St. David?s Cricket Club on Thursday night.

The heavy Police presence was designed to stamp out possible clashes between town and country gangs.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said yesterday that apart from normal weekend incidents such as road accidents and breakings and enterings, there were no serious incidents.

?Bermuda Police Service is very satisfied with the way the community responded to its appeal to enjoy the holiday but also to behave,? said Mr. Caines.

?We had the usual activities that come with a weekend such as breakings and enterings and road traffic accidents, but we were without a major incident over the holiday.

?That is a testament to the community coming together to make the Cup Match holiday a success. The community and the Police worked together to ensure safety for all and we hope this is a great prelude to things that can happen in the future.?

Twenty seven people were arrested for drug possession at a Sizzla concert at Shelly Bay on Wednesday, two were picked up for assaulting Police, and a third was taken in for an outstanding warrant.
