Police have launched an investigation into the death of a man who collapsed during a night out in Hamilton while celebrating his birthday.

Lowis Burcher, 42, slumped to the ground at the junction of Front Street and King Street between 2.30 a.m. and 2.40 a.m. on Tuesday.

He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in a semi-conscious state and died on Thursday night.

"Foul play has not been ruled out," said Police spokesman Dwayne Caines last night.

It is not known if Mr. Burcher, who had been drinking in various bars along Front Street, had been attacked and his injuries have not been disclosed.

An autopsy is due to be carried out on the dead man, who lived in Rose Hill, Southampton.

Mr. Burcher was with a woman when he collapsed and Police are hoping to speak to anyone who saw him.

"Police are interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen Mr. Burcher on Monday evening or Tuesday morning in a number of licensed premises along Front Street," he said.
