Police detectives are investigating the suspicious deaths of two men over the holiday weekend who died following separate, mysterious incidents.

A 19-year-old man from Smith's is believed to have drowned off the North Shore in the early hours yesterday, near to the junction of Store Hill in Devonshire.

The Royal Gazette understands the teenager may have been at a party at Devonshire Rec earlier in the night, but then left in the early hours on his motorbike.

He is then believed to have been involved in a minor road accident, but then left his bike at the scene and made off.

The teenager was believed to have run along the North Shore in the vicinity of Terceira's gas station.

How he came to be in the ocean is still not clear. The teenager is thought to have died soon after 3 a.m.

Last night, Police said they were continuing to withhold the man's name until all of his family had been informed, and said they were still trying to piece together the events leading up to his death.

And on Sunday, a 47-year-old man, who was found with mysterious internal injuries last week, died in the intensive care unit of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a result of his injuries.

Homeless man Harry Palmer, from Pembroke, died at 11.55 a.m. on Sunday.

He was found unconscious on the ground at Cedar Avenue, across from the Leopard's Club, at 5.45 a.m. on Monday of last week.

He was taken to hospital and found to have serious internal injuries, although it remaines a mystery how they had occurred.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said: "Presently, we are investigating the circumstances surrounding the 47-year-old man's death.

"Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity between 11 p.m. on June 2 and 5 a.m. on June 3 in the vicinity of Beacon Street and Cedar Avenue to contact the serious crime unit.

"Police are especially interested in speaking to the driver of a six-seater taxi who made the initial report of a man in the street."

And anyone who saw the 19-year-old man running along the North Shore in Devonshire, or at any point before his death on Monday morning, should call Central CID at 295-0011.

The coroner has been informed of both deaths.
