Police seek witnesses into deadly crash

The driver whose car hit a bus in a deadly crash on Friday was Peter Richold, 77, of Warwick, the Bermuda Police Service said at the weekend.

Mr. Richold became the second road fatality of the year.

"Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact P.c. Eddie Smith at the Traffic Enforcement Unit on 299-4265 or the main Police number, 295-0011," Police said. "The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

"Mr. Richold was driving his car east on South Shore Road in Southampton when he lost control and collided with a bus travelling in the opposite direction around 10.40 a.m. on Friday," it said.

Police said on Friday that Mr. Richolds was found in an unresponsive state before he was cut out of his wrecked white Mazda 323 and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance and subsequently pronounced dead a short time later.
