Police seize video from Fresh TV

Television station Fresh TV this week had to hand over a video tape to Police acting on a search warrant, the station confirmed yesterday.

Police would only confirm that the raid on Fresh TV offices was in connection with court proceedings surrounding the alleged attempted murder of two police officers on Court Street.

One Tuesday the station broadcast interviews with two men claiming to be witnesses to the last week's incident.

Yesterday Police officers showed up with a search warrant and demanded a copy of the tape.

"All incidents surrounding the attempted murder of two Police officers is now before the courts, and as such Bermuda Police Service will not comment on this specific matter," said Police spokesman Dwayne Caines.

Presenter Julie Matthews said that the station handed over the tape. "They were upset about the actual newscast," she said.

"According to officials in the Police Service we have single-handedly demoralised the 439 officers that make up the Bermuda Police force."

But she said she did not believe the Police action was directed against Fresh TV.

"They just want to have the tape, from what I understand, to prepare their case. They didn't say there was a case against Fresh TV."
