A gang of teenagers armed with machetes, baseball bats and knives took the law into their own hands in a terrifying weekend incident reported to Police.

The youths, aged between 16 and 18, confronted the father of another youth they were looking for at his house in St. George's on Sunday night - and ended up throwing a brick through a window and wrecking an air conditioner.

A Police spokesman said officers were called to the Waterloo Lane and Wellington Road area after the 40 year old St. George's man said a gang of youths had converged on his property at 9.40 p.m..

The complainant said the youths accused his son, who was not home at the time, of stealing a motorcycle belonging to one of them. They threw a brick through a bedroom window and pulled an air conditioner from a wall, destroying it.

Police are making active inquiries into the incident.

The incident came at the end of a busy weekend for Police, who made several drug-related arrests and apprehended many people on outstanding warrants.

One man escaped Police custody after he was arrested for possession of cannabis at Hamilton Parish Workmen's Club on Saturday night.

A Police spokesman could not say how or when the man escaped, which came after a routine check on the premises.

At the same time another man was arrested for possession of cannabis and offices found five crack cocaine rocks.

A number of people who had outstanding warrants for their arrest were apprehended.

A woman was arrested on Middle Town Lane in Pembroke, another woman on Horseshoe Road in Southampton and a man was caught on an outstanding warrant at Southampton Rangers Cricket Club. A Police spokesman said eight twists of cannabis and a brown paper twist were found on Middle Town Lane during the check on Saturday.

There were two cases of obstruction reported over the weekend, with a man being arrested on Friday night at the Somerset Cricket Club and on Saturday a man was arrested on Front Street for using offensive words, obstruction and littering. No further details were available.

There was one case of driving while impaired, eight cases of breaking and entering, in every parish except for Southampton, and eight domestic disturbances over the weekend.

Police are also investigating 17 cycle thefts that took place all over the Island.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said: "The Police are reminding the public to get cycles U-marked, park their cycles in a well lit area and use a supplementary lock."
