The Police service is refusing to be drawn on whether it will discipline two officers over alleged sexual liaisons on office time.

On Tuesday Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves threw out a female officer's claim that her immediate boss sexually assaulted her.

Instead Mr. Greaves said she had made the allegation because her boyfriend, also a Policeman, was getting suspicious of her relationship with her 44-year-old boss.

During the trial the court heard how the pair had been on patrol and gone to book a trip for her at the travel agent before going to her house to fix a knob on her dresser which had fallen off. The woman said that was when she was attacked.

There was also an occasion when she had gone to prepare party bags for her son's birthday at her home while on duty and another sexual encounter had occurred.

Defence lawyer Richard Hector had pointed to a complicated web of sexual liaisons within the Police force, saying the woman had a baby by one officer who later left her and married another woman.

He then suggested her boyfriend at the time of the alleged assaults - also a Police officer - had an affair with one of his female colleagues.

He said the alleged victim caught the two officers in bed when she went to his house unannounced and later told the accused about the affair.

The alleged victim said, while she had suspected an affair, it was actually a "misunderstanding". The complainant in the collapsed case has since married her former boyfriend.

Yesterday Police media spokesman Dwayne Caines said: "The Bermuda Police Service is not in a position, at this stage to comment upon what course of action, if any, might be considered in relation to a criminal case recently concluded before the courts involving members of the Bermuda Police Service.

"We also will not comment on any other matters as it pertains to this case or individuals surrounding this case."
