Police urged to deal with youth violence after Court Street attack
A back of town resident has called for Police to get a grip on youth violence after witnessing a sickening attack in Court Street in the early hours of Monday.
She saw a group of 20 including a man wielding a machete outside Swinging Doors, surrounding and attacking one man.
?There was a big circle of them. One was swinging, guys had weapons.
?I am not shocked, it happens all the time, something happens every other night, they are always fighting.?
She said two female police officers went to the fight but stood back. ?If you are going to send someone to stop a fight why send someone who will step aside, a woman is not going to do the job. They will slap a woman.?
The woman said the group eventually scattered while the victim also fled the scene but she fears the spiral of violence will continue with further retaliation and perhaps even a death before the summer is out.
?These guys have got stuff stashed, as soon as something pops off they get the stash. There is always a machete when there is a fight.
?It is getting very dangerous, someone innocent will get hurt for someone else?s drama.?
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said her sister had been hit as a man she was talking to was attacked.
?People don?t even want to go out, it isn?t right.
?They need Police patrolling the roads but Police are too scared.?
