Police warn illegally parked cars will be ticketed during boat parade
Parking violators be warned ? Police and the Traffic Enforcement Unit will be ticketing violators who park in restricted areas during the Christmas boat parade tomorrow night.
This includes parking in bus lay-bys, on yellow lines, sidewalks and blocking entrances to personal and commercial properties.
Last year a number of individuals were ticketed but Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said he hopes similar situations can be avoided this year.
The annual Christmas boat parade will take place tomorrow night, but in the event of unsuitable weather conditions, the parade will be rescheduled for Sunday.
?We advise the public to come early, as delays are anticipated on Harbour Road and the approach roads into Hamilton,? Mr. Caines said.
From 6 to 9 p.m., Harbour Road (between Manse Road and Stowe Hill) and The Lane (between Stowe Hill and North Roundabout) will have only one-way traffic flow in an easterly direction.
Within this one-way area, vehicles will be allowed to park on the northern side of Harbour Road (between Manse Road and Lovers Lane).
Vehicles on the southern side of the road will be kept moving in an easterly direction.
However, Harbour Road will be re-opened to two-way traffic at 9 p.m. and all parked vehicles must be removed by this time.
A large number of spectators are expected to attend this event and motorists are advised to park and walk to their viewing point.
Parking is available at the City Hall car park, Par La Ville car park, Elliot Street car park or Bulls Head car park ? parking will be free after 5 p.m.
The Cavendish Road car park is also available for use.
However, parking will not be permitted on Manse Road, Chapel Road or on Cavendish Road on either side of these streets.
