Port-a-pottys set for #1 Gate, Southside
The Ministry of Youth and Sport will put portable toilets at the #1 Gate facilities in Southside, St. David?s because the current bathrooms are unusable.
Kimberley Miller goes to the facility every week because her son plays T-ball there. She informed that the public bathrooms near Double Dip are not useable and unhygienic.
Mrs. Miller said faeces was smeared on the walls, there were no doors to the toilets, no running water and toilet paper strewn around the room.
?I was almost sick when I opened the door,? she said. ?It?s not right that it is this bad. Last week my son and I had to drive to the airport when he needed to use the bathroom. No one can use the toilets they are disgusting.?
Mrs. Miller placed calls to the Bermuda Land Development Corporation, who told her they were not in charge of the facilities. Works and Engineering said someone would look into the situation.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Youth and Sport said the Ministry managed the site, though it is owned by BLDC, and they would rectify the situation as soon as possible.
He said that portable toilets would be put in place this week, in time for the weekend T-Ball game.
He also said the Works and Engineering would begin work soon to repair and clean the bathrooms. The portable toilets will remain there until the bathrooms are working.
