Plans are in the works for a new townhouse development called Mango Hill off Harbour Road.

Private developer Jennifer Constable and Margot Cooper have received planning approval to build four units on the corner of Longford Road and Harbour Road. Mango Hill, which is above the Mizzentop condo development puts $1.5 million homes up for sale, and promises potential residents a peaceful and secluded development where endemic vegetation and cedar trees are lovingly preserved.

The developers are hoping to break ground over the next few months and potentially have completed the townhouses within a year.

The townhouse units have a total space of 2,500 square feet. Home owners will also have access to a swimming pool.

Ms Constable told The Royal Gazette that several people have already put down $25,000 deposits for the new units.

"We own this piece of land and we were going to build a single family home, but we figured it would be irresponsible considering Bermuda's current housing situation. We thought it would be nice to do a condo type development," she said.

Residents who have received their permanent residency certificates, young professionals and older people whose children have left home are among the callers making inquiries about the new development.

Ms Constable said the exterior of the townhouses will be kept in line with traditional principles of design, while the inside will include a modern layout of bamboo floors with energy efficient appliances including an Italian designed kitchen, Kohler bathrooms with reverse cycle air conditioning and fireplaces.

"We feel that we have planned a development which is both energy efficient and environmentally friendly," she said.
