Power cuts blamed on weather

Lightning last week was to blame for power outages which hit around 800 homes in the St. John's Road area of Spanish Point overnight on Tuesday.

A Belco spokeswoman said problems began at 8.30 p.m. with power being returned by 4.50 a.m. yesterday.

She said lightning had damaged a cable and work was still being done on correcting the problems throughout yesterday.

Lightning strikes on three transformers also took out power for around 30 St. David's homes for two hours yesterday at around 11 a.m. And flooding took out 300 phone lines in Pembroke on Tuesday.

BTC expect to have restored the service to Bakery Lane, Market Lane and Addendum Lane by today.

The majority of those affected were businesses after flood water leaked into a manhole on Serpentine Road.
