Premier speaks at territories council today

Premier Jennifer Smith

The Premier is speaking at the Overseas Territories Consultative Council being held at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London today.

Premier Jennifer Smith will speak on environmental action plans under the overall topic of environmental issues.

Ministers are also discussing a range of administrative subjects and current issues.

A session on offshore finance will look at the European Union (EU) Tax Initiative, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Harmful Tax Practices Initiative and the KPMG review that focused on the regulation of financial services in Bermuda and the Caribbean.

The meeting is presided over by Baroness Amos, Minister for the Overseas Territories, who introduced the first topic, the Overseas Territories relationship with the United Kingdom. Ms Smith has attended all four meetings to date and is accompanied by Dame Lois Browne- Evans, chief of staff Lt. Col. David Burch and Secretary to the Cabinet, John Drinkwater.
