Premier Alex Scott was last night in Antigua on his way to St. Kitts to participate in the Caribbean Community's (Caricom) annual Heads of Government meeting.

On the agenda is the situation in Haiti, the newest member of the regional grouping. As an associate member of Caricom, Bermuda has observer status at the meeting.

Mr. Scott, Governor Sir John Vereker and Public Safety Minister Randolph Horton have completed their visit to Jamaica where they were given a briefing of the Bermuda Regiment's training manoeuvres there.

Haiti is engulfed in political instability following the removal from office of its president Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

Caricom's Heads of Government met in emergency session in Kingston, Jamaica on March 2-3 to discuss the development and issued a statement saying that relations with Haiti's interim administration will be an urgent item on the agenda at the annual conference.

The Heads of Government also "reiterated their commitment to the people of Haiti and their intention to remain constructively engaged in the efforts to create the conditions considered necessary for their long term safety, well being and progress," according to an official statement from Caricom.

The meeting will also discuss progress on Caricom's Single Market, the establishment of the Caribbean Court of Justice, agricultural development and a looming threat faced by the region's sugar industry.
