PRIDE Bermuda is launching the 6th Red Ribbon Week beginning on Wednesday.

Lasting until October 19, the goal of the ten days is to host seven events aimed at educating and empowering Bermudians to live drug free.

Red Ribbon Week began in 1985, when US Drug Enforcement Administration agent Enrique Camerana was abducted, tortured and murdered by drug traffickers in Guadalajara, Mexico.

His body was found one month later in a shallow grave.

At his funeral, members of his family wore red ribbons as a sign of respect for his belief that one person can make a difference in eliminated the damaging effects of drug abuse.

The Red Ribbon has since become a world-wide symbol of that commitment, with PRIDE Bermuda's first Red Ribbon Week held in 1988.

Youth Presents, Wednesday, October 8 from 7.30-8 p.m. at Harbour Nights on Front Street

Red Ribbon Kick-Off, Monday, October 13, from 12.15-1.15 p.m. on the City Hall steps

Environmental Change, Tuesday, October 14, Schools Island Wide

Everyone Wear Red, Wednesday, October 15

Celebrating Life Drug Free, School Rally, Thursday, October 16 at 3.30 p.m.

Candle Light Walk, Friday, October 17, at 6.30 p.m. at the Cabinet grounds

Pray for the Children, October 17-19, at all Faith Communities
