Prisoners launch boycott

Government has promised to speed up the processing of paperwork for prospective parolees after prisoners launched a boycott of programmes in protest.

Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Robert Horton said last night he had held a three-hour meeting with prison heads yesterday to tackle the issue.

He said prisoners were annoyed that they were technically eligible to be considered for parole but their cases were not being heard because documents were not ready.

Mr. Horton said this problem would be addressed but could not say who or what was to blame other than that human resource issues were at the heart of it.
