Commissioner of Corrections John Prescod has launched an investigation into the officers who were responsible for fugitive David Burrows when he escaped on June 9.

Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs Robert Horton told The Royal Gazette yesterday that the matter is under review.

"The Commissioner, Lt. Col. Prescod, has initiated an internal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the escape and he is awaiting the outcome of the inquiry," Mr. Horton said.

Mr. Horton said the Commissioner was following normal procedures in assembling an inquiry team and that it would be headed by a senior corrections officer.

He would not comment when the report would be submitted to the Commissioner except to say that the team was expected to complete its investigation "in the very near future".

Burrows, who escaped prison officers while visiting The Arches Clinic in Paget where he was receiving treatment for his eyes, has been at large for 11 days.
