PTB backtracks on Southside buses ? route restarts today
Bus service to Southside will be resumed today after a two-day cancellation, the Ministry of Transport said yesterday.
The Ministry responded after concerned residents in the area contacted to complain that buses appeared to have been cancelled without warning, leaving schoolchildren and workers stranded on Monday morning.
One resident said she called the Public Transportation Board about the problem, but no one seemed to know anything about it.
Yesterday PTB Director Dan Simmons was unavailable but a Transport Ministry spokeswoman said service to Southside had indeed been cancelled due to the low number of people riding the Southside buses ? but that the Ministry would be reinstating the service today.
Southside residents and businesses were notified about the cancellation roughly three weeks ago through the Bermuda Land Development Corporation (BLDC), she said, adding that the ridership numbers were given to the BLDC.
She added: ?However, the Ministry has decided to continue the service as previously scheduled in an effort to support the businesses in the area and further to continue to provide the option of public transport for those wishing to get to that area.?
The service will resume as normal today, she said. ?We will be reviewing it to better suit the frequencies with the demand.?
