The Red Cross will be out in full force tomorrow, handing out brochures and information in recognition of World Red Cross Day.

Held in the middle of Red Cross Week (May 4-10), May 8 is the birthday of the organisation's founder, Henry Dunant.

Mr. Dunant founded the organisation in Geneva, Switzerland in 1863, and was the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1901.

On May 8, the Bermuda Red Cross will be setting up booths at the Bank of Butterfield Reid Street and Rosebank branches, Bank of Bermuda Front Street and Par-la-Ville branches, Miles Supermarket, the Supermart, and the Washington Mall.

They will hand out Red Cross pins as well as membership forms along with information on CPR and First Aid courses; Babysitting courses; and blood, organ and tissue donation. They will also be selling first aid kits and raffle tickets for the annual summer dinner dance.

The aim of International Red Cross Day is to educate the public about the different services the Red Cross provides to its communities and to recruit volunteers.
