Regiment seeks a few good women

Bermudian women hoping to serve their country will be provided the chance to join a Regiment volunteer recruit camp specifically aimed at them.

The camp will run in early May of this year and will provide training for women wishing to receive basic soldiering skills including drill, first aid, weapon handling, Regimental history and physical fitness.

?The camp is primarily aimed at women in order to bolster the number of females in our ranks who are vital to the operational effectiveness of the Regiment,? said Captain Wayne Smith, the Regiment?s press officer.

But men are also allowed to join the camp just as women are allowed to volunteer during the annual two-week recruit camp that takes place in January. Approximately ten women are currently serving in the Regiment.

?Although the focus is on women, the invitation is also being extended to males who wish to serve their country,? he added.

Volunteers are also signed on for the three years and two months of service that drafted men must also commit too.

Women and men interested in signing up for the volunteer recruit camp should call Regiment Headquarters at 238-1045 for registration details.
