A repeat drink driver has been jailed for six weeks after admitting he became crazy under the influence.

Sher Thapa, 34, from Happy Valley Road, Pembroke, was spotted by Police driving erratically without lights along Front Street on October 27 this year.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill said Thapa crossed the road and nearly hit another bike and other vehicles.

When he was stopped he had trouble putting his bike on its stand but he told Police he had only had two beers.

He consented to breath testing but tried to cheat the system by alternately blowing out the side of the mouthpiece and not blowing at all before refusing to do the test altogether.

Thapa pleaded guilty and said he had stopped drinking.

He told Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves: "If I drink I go crazy."

Thapa, who has joint Vietnamese and Nepalese nationality, was already banned from driving until September 2003 after a previous offence.

Mr. Greaves said Thapa had to be stopped before he killed someone.

He said: "You have to get locked up because you think it's some kind of a joke.

"You get six weeks in prison, short and sharp to shock you."
