Graffiti close to one of the Island's most popular tourist spots that is paying tribute to murder victim Shaundae Jones was labelled as "ridiculous" last night.

The Royal Gazette was told that residents living near Southampton Rangers Club on South Shore were upset at the graffiti that appeared three days ago on the road, a wall, a bus shelter and even trees.

One man, a taxi driver, who did not wish to be named, said he believed anyone found vandalising public property should be punished, regardless of their reason for doing it.

He said: "All of the road opposite Horseshoe Bay gate has been covered in graffiti and it looks terrible.

"The wall, the trees and along the road and bus shelter have been written on - all to do with the murder shooting at the weekend.

"It has upset the whole neighbourhood. Everyone is saying how ridiculous it is. It's a beautiful neighbourhood and we have got the tourists going to the beach across the road. What must they think Something should be done about it."

The taxi driver said to make matters worse, he believed that most of the people responsible for the vandalism were not from the neighbourhood.

"People should be punished for doing this," he added. "Most of them don't live in the neighbourhood and have no rights in this neighbourhood."

Mr. Jones, 20, was gunned down in the early hours of last Sunday after leaving Club Malabar in Dockyard.

He was in a car with his friends as they were driving away from the venue when it is believed someone approached the car, opened the door, and shot him at point blank range.

His mother, Marsha Jones, and Police have appealed for people with information to come forward. Three people have been in custody helping officers with their inquiries.
