The Bermuda Electric Light Company will move 1.5 million pounds of equipment through the streets of Hamilton between Friday and next Wednesday. The equipment is part of Belco's efforts "to keep pace with Bermuda's growing demand for electricity".

The new equipment includes two 14.5-megawatt engines, many generators and other equipment that is necessary for the upgrade.

Serpentine Road will be closed for a few hours a day between August 6 and August 11 in order to move the new equipment from the Hamilton Harbour to its Serpentine Road plant.

The new equipment will arrive in Bermuda aboard the MV Jumbo Fairlane, a special heavy-lift ship, on Thursday.

Serpentine Road will be closed for approximately three hours on August 7 and August 9; they will close the road at 8 p.m. On August 6-8 there will be eight loads of equipment transported to the plant and on August 11 Belco will move the generators and close the road at 11p.m.

Parking will also be limited in Hamilton when the equipment is transported.

There will be no parking on parts of Front Street, Queen Street, Church Street, Par-la-Ville Road, Woodlands Road and Cemetery Road while the equipment is moved.

The new equipment will improve Belco services and will help them meet the needs of Bermudians. Belco appreciates the public's cooperation and hopes that it will not be a large inconvenience.
