A "road rage" truck driver was fined nearly $3,000 in Magistrates' Court this week after he admitted smashing a taxi driver's window and injuring him in the arm.

Crown counsel Anthony Blackman told the court that Colton (Carlton) C. Smith, 40, of Prospect, Devonshire, was facing the count of punching the door window of a taxi and and assault on Sunday November 9, 2003.

Mr. Blackman said Smith was driving his heavy truck down King Street, Pembroke, driving side by side with the taxi.

Smith shouted at the taxi driver to move, but soon after, Smith broke the window, hitting the victim several times in the arm.

In Court, Smith told Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves that he "got a little excitable and lost it for a little bit".

Mr. Greaves fined Smith $500 for breaking the window, $500 for assault and the sum of $1,900 for damage he caused to the taxi.
