A spate of robberies of gaming machines has prompted Police to urge vendors to step up security.

Recently thieves took around $1,000 in cash from machines at the Ex-Artillerymen's Association and coins from Woody's Bar, Sandys.

Other locations around the island have also been targeted.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said vendors need to put in surveillance cameras and adequate security to limit their vulnerability.

The Beach owner Rick Olsen, who has a slew of gaming machines in his Front Street bar, said his establishment had been spared in the rash of thefts because of better security.

"Thieves target easy targets." He said machines needed to be regularly emptied to reduce any loss.
