CedarBridge Academy is celebrating its fifth anniversary this autumn and a week of events has been organised to mark the big occasion.

Deputy principal Carol Parker told the school's Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) on Tuesday night that the third week of October had been earmarked for the variety of festivities and fun.

The week will be kicked off on October 15 with a special supplement published by The Royal Gazette outlining the numerous student achievements over the past five years.

On October 17, the school is inviting the public to go into the school for an informal chat with pupils and teachers, as well as a look around the building.

Ms Parker said the following day the official opening of the event will be held between 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. A former CedarBridge student who is now studying medicine in Grenada will be speaking to guests, along with former principal Ernest Payette. And later that, present and past students are invited to a special dance in the school cafeteria, which will be based on a 70s theme. Ms Parker said students were being asked to arrive at the dance decked out in 70s outfits.

A family day will be held to mark the school's birthday on the Saturday, between noon and 4 p.m. at National Stadium. And then in the evening, a variety night will be held from 7 p.m. in the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium of the school, where teachers and former students are set to entertain the audience.

And the celebrations will be brought to an end on Sunday with a church service from 10.30 a.m. to noon in the school auditorium, followed by a banquet.

Ms Parker said: "This has been in the making since April. We really want to encourage students from the past to come back. It's like a homecoming, as well.

"We are looking for sponsorship. We have approached several businesses. But if any parents would like to make a donation or become a patron, they are welcome to do so."
