Sandys South: Clear win for Lister
It was a clear win again last night for the PLP's Terry Lister.
Mr. Lister won with 483 votes against the UBP's Ted Gauntlett who picked up 296 votes.
Of the 1,048 registered voters in Sandys South, 781 votes were cast last night.
The area has long been considered a safe seat for the PLP and even with the new electoral boundaries Mr. Lister was the favourite to win.
"I'm very pleased with the outcome. In the future I hope we can solidify Sandys South in a way which makes us happy," Mr. Lister said when the final count was announced.
Mr. Gauntlett said someone had bet two cases of beer that he would be successful in the constituency. "I'm feeling really good," he said afterwards when the votes proved otherwise. "It's an improvement over the last election. The majority ratio was three to one, but this time it was less than two to one. I worked hard. I congratulate Mr. Lister."
Several voters who turned up at the polling station predicted a PLP victory, saying the people were afraid to give power back to the UBP.
"The people want to give the PLP another chance," one voter said.
"I hope there are no riots if the UBP win," said another Sandys resident.
A woman voter had said her decision was easy.
"For me it's about the legacy that the party can leave for my children's children," she said.
