Schoolboys start fire ? no charges laid
?Don?t play with matches or you?ll get burned? has never been more true for some children whose playing with matches led to the destruction of a derelict truck and a shipping-type container at Sandys Secondary Middle School on Friday.
Lieutenant Dana Lovell confirmed yesterday that the incident took place at about 4.34 p.m. on the school grounds, but said it was not arson.
?Some children had been playing with matches when the fire started,? he said. ?We know that there were children that were playing in a truck. With the investigation, there is nothing to suggest to the Fire Service that there was any criminal intent. We are certainly not treating it that way.?
He said the shipping-type container was used as storage for old furniture including chairs and a couch, PVC piping and some old computer hardware, most of which was destroyed in the fire.
Lieutenant Lovell could not say how many children were involved, or what the value of the damage was and the principal of Sandys Secondary Middle School, Melvyn Bassett could not be reached for comment yesterday.
