Scott to visit Regiment in Jamaica

The Premier will travel to Jamaica today to visit Bermuda Regiment troops going through their paces.

Mr. Scott will also be meeting Jamaican Prime Minister P.J Patterson before attending a CARICOM conference in St. Kitts and Nevis during the Caribbean tour, which coincides with a Regiment training exercise in Jamaica.

Public Safety Minister Randolph Horton and assistant Cabinet secretary Major Kenneth Dill are accompanying the Premier on the trip.

"The Premier's pride in and respect for training exercises will afford him and the Minister a first hand opportunity to observe the strength and preparedness of Bermuda's paramilitary security force," a Government Press release stated. With many Jamaican nationals living in Bermuda, the Premier hopes to "further open the lines of communication on both domestic and cultural issues" with the Caribbean island during the visit.

At the CARICOM 15th Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, which will be held on March 25 and 26, delegates will discuss the current crisis in Haiti and an update on the implementation of the single market and economy.
