If you?re depressed or tired of the work you?re doing and you love to cook, switching to a career as a chef could be the answer for you.

Research shows that people who enjoy the work they do are more likely to be financially successful and there are many in Bermuda who love to cook. Recognising this, the National Training Board (NTB) has teamed up with chefs locally to provide on-Island training.

For the third year running, the NTB and the Occupational Advisory Committee for the Culinary Arts Industry will hold Chef Search.The event sees interested people attend a special presentation to learn about chef apprenticeship programmes.

Last year more than 140 attended and six were selected.

Sonesta, the local Fairmont hotels, the Little Venice group , the Lemon Tree, Aqua, Fresco?s and Cambridge Beaches have each taken on apprentices through the programme. This year, Elbow Beach have also agreed to partner.

Apprentices selected for the programme undertake three years of full-time work under a qualified supervising chef and attend school on a part-time. They are paid what organisers describe as a ?competitive wage?. At the end they will have work experience and certification recognised by the American Culinary Federation and world wide.

Chef Search will take place at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on May 27 at 5.30 p.m.
