Airlines offer September seat sale

Residents can look forward to cheap getaways to New York from September as airlines serving the Island lay on a series of cut-price seats.

American Airlines and Continental are offering mid-week flights to the Big for $251 before taxes, from September 3 to December 12. The normal cost is $584.

Weekend flights for the same period usually come in at $640 but are going for $285 before taxes and must be booked by August 9.

Judith Butterfield, American Airlines Bermuda manager, said: "It's a very big saving and you can travel for three to 30 days.

"Normally we have sales because historically September, October and November are light loads, so we are trying to do what we can to get people travelling again. It has nothing to do with September 11."

The prices were quoted by Hamilton-based C Travel.

Continental's website was showing cheapest fares for the period at $674.60 and $708.60.

Other Internet fares for American Airlines for the same period to New York were showing at $307, $334, $443, and $485. Also on offer on the internet for September to New York were flights at $428 and $470 from US Airways.
