Many residents most or all of their holiday gifts on the Island as the Christmas shopping season hits its last week.

With the introduction of the second phase of the Chamber of Commerce?s ?Buy Bermuda? campaign, went to the streets yesterday to find out where people were doing their Christmas shopping.

The answer seems to be that most people are ?buying Bermuda?, lured by Christmas sales and reduced prices.

Receptionist Joyce Fisher said: ?I bought some of my gifts in Bermuda and some overseas. But there were some really good bargains here.?

Tiler Brian Robinson said he had done all of his Christmas shopping on the Island.

?It?s been quite easy, surprisingly, this year,? he said.

?With the 50 percent sales at Trimingham?s, I bought most of my gifts there.?

Some shoppers said they had to buy the ?specific thing they were looking for? from a shop overseas.

Information technology specialist Michael Mazza said: ?I bought about a 50-50 mix. For the kids I could find things here, but the specific things I was looking for I had to shop overseas.?

?I bought some things online, mostly the things I couldn?t find here,? said Account Administrator Kristin Maughan.

Debbie Lewis, a human resource specialist, also clicked her way through some of her holiday shopping. She said: ?I bought the majority of my gifts here but some I had to buy online. The ?Buy Bermuda? campaign has done a good job but the service here just isn?t very good.?

Other shoppers found some stores were untidy.

?I shopped for my gifts in Bermuda but I found it difficult. With all the merging of stores it was really messy,? said registered nurse Rebecca Madeiros.

But landscaper Paul Lewis said: ?Yeah, I But landscaper Paul Lewis said: ?Yeah, I bought all my gifts here, I always buy my gifts in Bermuda.?

?Yes, of course I bought my presents here. And, I found everything that I needed,? said waitress June Gardner.

?The ?Buy Bermuda? campaign worked for me. I did all of my shopping here.

?I always buy locally and even though I made a lot of my gifts, I bought the frames to put them in here,? said interior designer Robert Pedro.

And even though telecommunications specialist Guy Phillips was going away for the holidays he said:

?Yeah, I did pretty much all of my shopping here. I bought some stuff and I?ll take the presents with me on vacation.?
