A small street survey revealed that locals believe Police should fully enforce the seatbelt law despite mounds of paperwork.

Yesterday?s reported thatthat there are loopholes in the seatbelt law and few drivers have been ticketed for not buckling up.

Police are also opposed to enforcing the law, saying it means they must process loads of paperwork.

?It is up to the Police department to enforce the law because the law is there. People should still continue to use their seatbelts despite a lack of enforcement, said Shane Curtis.

? I am concerned taxi drivers and bus operators are exempt from the law. It seems like the law is in place for some and not others.?

Veronica Chameau said she had worn her seatbelt for years and said: ?Police should enforce it.?

Robyn Phillips questioned the high fine.

?I think the fine is a little steep. I don?t agree with it. But it is a good idea to have people seatbelted because the population is growing and therefore there are more people on the roads. More people on the roads makes it more dangerous.

?Some cars don?t have seatbelts and maybe government should provide them.?

Stephanie Furbert expressed concern about using the roads everyday.

?I think Police should enforce the law because I ride on the road everyday, honey, and I want it to be safe.?

Anthony Butterfield said: ?They need to finalise it for everyone?s safety.?

He admitted to wearing his belt anyway despite the lacy of enforcement.

Taxi driver Arthur Burt said: ?They don?t enforce it with taxi drivers. If a taxi driver wants to jump out of the car and help his passengers it gets tiring if you are constantly undoing your seat belt. And if someone wants to rob you or holds a knife to your neck you can?t get away fast enough.?

John Raposo said: ?I will continue to wear it even though it is not really enforced.?
