Single Parent Families in Action are to hold a fundraising car wash for the family of Chena Trottwho was murdered at a Hamilton parish gas station two years ago.

The 32-year-old victim left behind three children who are now being cared for by a hard-pressed grandfather David Trott.

The foundation?s organiser Althea Iris said he had suffered from rule changes which wiped out his entitlement to social assistance because of his business interests even though he was overwhelmed with coping with the new responsibilities.

?He is caught up in a whirlwind but the community will help them make it.?

Mr. Trott, 64, told instead of getting $800 a month from his daughter he was now laying out a similar sum for food and clothes for their upkeep and was having to work extra shifts in his taxi to cover the shortfall.

He said the only good fortune was that the three had been living with him before his daughter was killed.

He said: ?It?s like I am now having to find an extra $1,600 every month. If I haven?t spent $200,000 then I haven?t spent $2.?

But he said Government would not help out because they said they said he made enough from his job as a mason and from his taxi work.

He said there was money for the children in a trust for college but he doubted they would get that far.

Mr. Trott said he would never fully recover from the death of his daughter.

?But it?s the reality. It?s part of life.?

Mrs. Iris said the fundraiser on Saturday could become an annual event while she hoped people would offer mentoring to the bereaved children who are 16, 15 and 11.

The charity drive will begin at 8 a.m. with bikes being charged $10, cars $15 and larger vehicles $20 at the Esso Tiger Market in Crawl Hill where the incident took place.

The money raised will be split evenly between helping Ms Trott?s family and between other needy families under the charity?s Back to School drive to raise funds for buying school essentials for the coming term.

Ms Trott was murdered in August 9, 2002. George (Messy) MacDonald Liburd, 30, of Pembroke, is set to stand trial in November for the murder.
